Post-game: Sinnoh & beyond

The post-game is longer than the main story. It runs in three chapters: the Hoenn post-game (Delta Episode, Ultra Wormholes, Team Rainbow Rocket), World Championship Island, and the Sinnoh region. The Arceus story that follows has its own page.

Chapter 1: Hoenn post-game

The wake-up

• Your father gives Ticket 1 for the Battle Frontier; Birch upgrades the Pokédex; trading is unlocked.
• Wally calls: he is being attacked by a Team Magma remnant in Petalburg. Go there and drive off Magma Admin Courtney.
• Team Magma's "strongest man" Yanshan waits at the old Magma Hideout and teaches V-create when beaten; the Aqua "empress" waits at the Aqua Hideout. Both are optional.

Delta Episode: Zinnia and the meteorite

1. Zinnia's challenge. Zinnia, Lorekeeper of the Draconid people, confronts you as "the hero who awakened Rayquaza" and battles you. Afterwards: "head to the rocket launch center."
2. Mossdeep Space Center. Devon's Infinity Energy powers a probe rocket to survey the incoming meteorite. President Stone explains Plan S (deflect it with the energy) and Plan D, the "Destroyer Meteor". Collect meteorite shards in Granite Cave; Zinnia intervenes and steals your Mega Bracelet.
3. The twist. At the Space Center Zinnia reveals she and Courtney are the "new Team Magma", grabs the shards and Steven's bracelet, and flees. Steven and Wallace arrest the remnants; you must head for the Sky Pillar.
4. Meteor Falls, the Draconid cave. Fight Zinnia again and get the bracelet back ("The Mega Bracelet has been returned."). Steven battles you here and gives Metagrossite. A Cosmog waits in this cave; it is needed for the Ultra Wormholes and evolves at level 65 into Solgaleo by day or Lunala by night.
5. Sky Pillar. Mach Bike required. Rayquaza pushes the meteoroid away. The Draconid elder at the shrine can re-teach Dragon Ascent. Back in Mossdeep the researchers give you the Meteorite as a memento (you can trade it for a TM at the Fuego Ironworks in Sinnoh later).

Steven's island and the Ultra League

Reached through the cave beside Ever Grande City once you are Champion. The mansion is the hub for everything that follows.

• The Ultra League room: Champions from every region are meeting there ("The Champions are inside the residence discussing countermeasures"). You have to beat them one after another to pass ("You must defeat the past Champions to pass!"): Blue, Lance, Alder, Iris, Diantha, Elio and Selene, Gladion, the Kalos champion X, N, Hilda, Black, Lucas, Serena and more. All are level 100; teams are on the trainers page.
• Anabel (International Police) runs the Ultra Wormhole survey from the conference room.
• An NPC on the right side of the island gives Beast Balls; the villa NPC gives the Old Sea Map for Mew on Faraway Island (sail from Lilycove); Selene on the right of the island re-awakens any Totem you beat without collecting its Z-Crystal; a "MoeMoe" attendant gives your lead Pokémon perfect IVs.
• Grinding spot community: the NPC at the mansion entrance uses level 75–80 Wobbuffet, Blissey, Chansey and Lickitung. Bring Fighting types.

Groudon and Kyogre

Anabel's first missions: Route 115's Terra Cave, where Maxie fights with a level-100 team and Primal Groudon, giving you the Red Orb and a level-70 Groudon encounter; then the Weather Institute reports an anomaly at Route 125's Marine Cave, where Archie does the same with Kyogre (level 70). Both encounters are scripted battles found in the ROM.

Ultra Wormholes

Steven at Meteor Falls: "Find Red, the Kanto Champion who defeated an Ultra Beast all on his own, and bring him back to us." The survey NPC tells you where to begin: "let's try starting from the top floor inside Mt. Pyre." Before each wormhole the game saves and warns you to bring medicine and HM users; inside, "certain status-inflicting moves" are useless, and you cannot leave until you finish the other side.

• You need Cosmog or its evolutions in the party for the spatial gates, or the Ultra Suit (given by the Devon president once Rainbow Rocket is founded; it lets you enter without Solgaleo/Lunala).
• Mt. Pyre wormhole: an Ultra Recon researcher gives Poipole (evolves by learning Dragon Pulse); Cresselia (level 50) is on Mt. Pyre.
• Spear Pillar / Distortion World: Cyrus fights you with rental Pokémon; you cannot use your own. Giratina (level 80, holding a Griseous Orb) waits at the end of the Distortion World.
• New Mauville: Genesect, level 50.
• Giant Chasm: two Ghetsis fights (doubles, then singles). Rewards: the DNA Splicers and a second Cosmog. Kyurem is here at level 50.
• Route 116 (Nebel Cave / Timeless Woods): Volcanion (level 50) and an Eternal Flower Floette.
• Cerulean Cave: Team Rocket executives Archer, Ariana and Proton, then Mewtwo at level 50. A later armoured-Mewtwo event exists ("The armor restraining Mewtwo has been removed… Poké Balls will work again!").
• Allearth Forest and Lake (the Kalos forest): Lysandre with Xerneas and Yveltal on his team, and the two legendaries themselves at level 50. Follow the capital-letter path in the Magic Woods community: up, right, left, down, down, left, left, left, right, right, down, down.
• Icirrus City and Dragonspiral Tower: Zekrom and Reshiram, level 50.
• Mt. Silver: two battles with Red. The game hints that the first is not the real one: "It feels as if something deep within Mt. Silver is resonating…! A Pressure very much like Red's own…!"
• Mysterious island: Lyra hands you a "ferry ticket to Johto" that is really for an island with the legendary birds and the Johto cast (Silver, Gold, Ethan, Kris). Bird battles lead to Ho-Oh at the summit and a rampaging Shadow Lugia; keep exploring the island cave after Lapras ("It seems Lapras is not the master of this island…"). Articuno and Zapdos are scripted at Navel Rock in the ROM.

Necrozma and the 18 Z-Crystals

Anabel: "The light crystals Necrozma scattered across the Hoenn region… have spawned aberrant Totem-like Pokémon… we must gather these light crystals one by one." Eighteen Totem Pokémon (level 80, each holding its type's Z-Crystal) sit in hidden base-style spots around Hoenn; the items page lists them. With all 18: "The 18 Z-Crystals let out a mighty surge…! A suspicious opening seems to have appeared…!"

The opening leads to the Pacifidlog Ultra Cave, Faba, Lusamine and the Ultra Null Zone, where Necrozma is "trapped in a prison of lightning". Faba (level 65 doubles) is the boss; Necrozma is a level-50 encounter afterwards, and Faba hands over his research, the N-Solarizer and N-Lunarizer.

Team Rainbow Rocket

Faba escapes to found Team Rainbow Rocket with villains from parallel worlds. Their base is in Ultra Space (the map is called Rainbow Castle). Bosses in order of the text: Giovanni, Lysandre, Cyrus, an alternate Maxie who "turned my entire world into land", an alternate Archie whose world "ended up swallowed entirely by the sea", Ghetsis with Kyurem and the DNA Splicers, and Faba. Admins Jupiter, Zinzolin, Xerosic, Shelly and Tabitha fight in level-88 doubles. community: on the harder modes Giovanni must be beaten within ten turns, and losing revives you at the base.

The arc closes on the Summit of Finality: the assembled Champions rally you ("Believe in the bond between you and your Pokémon, the world will not disappear that easily!") and you fight a giant beast with their aces cheering. Afterwards the original developer's note plays: "You've made it through the Ultra League and Team Rainbow Rocket! Unfortunately, that's all the story progress there is for now." Everything below was added in later versions.

Chapter 2: World Championship Island

• Getting there. Scott gives the ticket after 35 straight wins in the Battle Tower (open level), or after the Rainbow Rocket arc. Sail Slateport → Lilycove → the island. Later the Snowpoint icebreaker in Sinnoh also goes straight to the island.
• Dynamax Band. Leon was invited by Steven but stayed to fight the Darkest Day; he explains Eternatus "escaped through a spatial distortion" into an Ultra Space in Hoenn and gives the band. If you miss him, Sonia in his room (the small house below the Pokémon Center) gives one.
• Eternatus. Leon is later found wounded in Ultra Space; you subdue Eternatus alone (level 50 scripted encounter). Leon then offers Dynamax rematches at a Wishing Star power spot; the Max Soup NPC gives your lead Pokémon the Gigantamax factor.
• Rules. The tournament desk explains the format: standard doubles, bring six choose four, no duplicate species or items, no mythicals. In v5.7 the tournament itself is not open; the island hosts the Galar gym leaders (Bea, Allister, Avery, Klara at level 100 doubles), Koga, Paul and others.
• Koga's mark. Beat Koga and he marks you. That unlocks the ninja village hidden west of Rustboro: "Please come with only a single Greninja in tow." Win the three-round trial and your Greninja gains Battle Bond, becoming Ash-Greninja. Once you own one, Ash visits Littleroot for a tag battle.
• Paul. Beating Paul on the island earns the Sinnoh ticket.
• After the Sinnoh League every TM is sold here, and it is the place to farm PP Ups community.

Chapter 3: Sinnoh

Arrival

Sail from Lilycove to Canalave City. Lucas meets you: "Every town in Sinnoh has Ride Pokémon that can fly you around. But since you're new here, you should visit the towns first." Fly points unlock as you visit. The Ride Pokémon summoner is in the Team Galactic warehouse in Veilstone, which also holds an HM. As Hoenn Champion you may Surf anywhere at once.

The eight gyms

"Against a Champion's challenge, the Gym Leaders will use power at the mythical tier, and the type restriction drops to a minimum of three Pokémon." Every gym is a level-50 rules battle (bring six, pick three) and can be taken in any order; community guides suggest Canalave first. Each leader gives a Generation 8 TM instead of a badge you need, though the badges still count for the League.

The ROM's stored teams for each leader (the six they pick three from):

Sinnoh League

• Requirements: eight Sinnoh badges, exactly six Pokémon, no eggs.
• Victory Road: Lucas and Barry meet you at the end; Barry battles, Lucas gives an item. Scripted level-80 pseudo-legendaries (Hydreigon, Salamence, Metagross, Dragonite) live inside.
• Format: "standard Double Battle rules… The Elite Four await behind the four doors on either side. You may challenge them in any order you like." A staff member heals you between fights and a monitor shows each opponent's team. Aaron (Bug), Bertha (Ground), Flint (Fire) and Lucian (Psychic) are followed by Cynthia in serious mode. The ROM stores only placeholders for these fights; the teams are built at battle time.
• After the League: Heatran in a new Mt. Coronet opening reached from Snowpoint via Route 216 (level 30 in the ROM); every TM goes on sale at the Championship island.

Sinnoh side quests worth doing

When Cynthia mentions "another hidden ruin near Celestic Town" you have reached the Lost Artifacts questline. Continue on the next page.
