The hack

Pokémon Hyper Emerald: Lost Artifacts (口袋妖怪 究极绿宝石) is the work of its Chinese authors: Destvol, Satochu, Popy, Potato, Hurricane, Feiyixiang and their team. It is built on Pokémon Emerald and was originally released through Baidu. On top of the Hoenn story it adds the whole Sinnoh region as post-game, Mega Evolution, Z-Moves and Dynamax, every species through Sword and Shield, over a hundred side quests and a hard mode. The 32 MB ROM is twice the size of the original game.

The English + QoL patch

Binary patches on the “bugfix 2” build of v5.7, with no source access: the remaining text translated, and the quality-of-life features on the Features page. Each feature is Thumb assembly placed in verified free space, with an automated mGBA test that drives the game and checks the result.

  • HMs without the Pokémon and the Nature display fix were contributed by@anibalribeiro.
  • The in-battle type badge art is from the ROM hack SoulGold; credit to its authors.
  • Tools: mGBA (with Lua scripting for the tests), Capstone, Keystone, Python and Pillow.
  • Scripts, tools, docs and translation data are MIT-licensed. The game and the hack are not covered and are not distributed.

Where the guide’s data comes from

  • Wild encounters, trainer teams, map names, item and species lists: read directly from the patched ROM with the scripts in the repository. These are the same bytes the game uses, so they are exact for v5.7 bugfix 2. The Pokémon, trainer and item sprites are the game’s own, cut from the same tables.
  • Story, quest steps and NPC hints: reconstructed from the game’s dialogue and scripts and checked against community playthroughs where possible. The Journal objectives are the table the in-game Journal is built from.
  • Legendary and Mega Stone locations: community guides for v5.5–v5.6 (listed below), cross-checked with the dialogue and the ROM’s script data. Anything that could not be confirmed for v5.7 is marked community on its page.
