Back to all Guides

The post-game is longer than the main story. It runs in three chapters: the Hoenn post-game (Delta Episode, Ultra Wormholes, Team Rainbow Rocket), World Championship Island, and the Sinnoh region. The Arceus story that follows has its own page.

Chapter 1: Hoenn post-game

The Hoenn post-game is one chain of missions. Anabel on Steven’s Island hands them out and you report back to her after each one; the Devon Scout next to her says where the next Ultra Wormhole is. The order below comes from the game’s scripts: each step is gated on the one before it.

Story order

  1. Interpol. After the Hall of Fame, Interpol agents Nanu and Anabel are waiting in Littleroot Town.
  2. Steven’s Island. The guard at the Pokémon League in Ever Grande City now lets you through the passage to a secret island. As you arrive, Wally calls from Petalburg City.
  3. The Delta Episode. Wally in Petalburg, then Devon Corp. in Rustboro, a meteorite fragment in Granite Cave, the Mossdeep Space Center, Meteor Falls, the Sky Pillar and outer space (Deoxys). It ends with Wallace in Mossdeep. Details below.
  4. Meteor Falls. Back on Steven’s Island, Anabel reports trouble deep inside Meteor Falls, where Steven is investigating.
  5. The Pacifidlog Ultra Wormhole. Anabel has found a new wormhole near Pacifidlog Town. Faba and Lusamine are behind it, and the other side is Cerulean Cave: Team Rocket and Mewtwo. Report to Anabel, who names the black beast: Necrozma.
  6. The first Totem. Gladion asks for help at the Secret Base on Route 111. Anabel then explains the light crystals Necrozma scattered across Hoenn: each spawned a Totem Pokémon holding a Z-Crystal.
  7. The Tapu trials. Nanu has found strange islands. Pass Tapu Bulu’s trial with him, then find the other Kahunas: Hala in Dewford Town (Tapu Koko), Hapu in Slateport City (Tapu Fini) and Olivia in Mossdeep City (Tapu Lele). Report to Nanu for the Tapunium Z.
  8. News of Faba, then the Scorched Slab wormhole. Talk to the Devon Scout on Steven’s Island first: the wormhole in the Scorched Slab (Route 120; bring a way past whirlpools) will not let you in before his report. It leads to the Whirl Islands in Johto: Faba, Giovanni and Silver. Report to Anabel.
  9. The Ultra League. Anabel sends you to the lobby, where Steven and the former Champions are waiting to train you. Report to Anabel, with Gold and Kris.
  10. Abnormal weather. The Devon Scout links the fluctuations to abnormal weather: Terra Cave (drought: Maxie and Groudon) or Marine Cave (downpour: Archie and Kyogre). Either one moves the story on. Report to Anabel.
  11. Mt. Pyre’s summit wormhole leads to the Spear Pillar (Cyrus and Team Galactic) and the Distortion World, where the Lake Guardians thank you for freeing Dialga and Palkia and send you home. Report to Anabel.
  12. Shoal Cave’s icy room leads to the Giant Chasm: Team Plasma, Ghetsis and Kyurem. Report to Anabel.
  13. The Route 116 wormhole leads to Allearth Forest and Lake: Team Flare, Paul and Yveltal. Report to Anabel.
  14. The Mirage Tower. Faba is seen alone near the tower in the Route 111 desert, and Team Flare, Alain and Paul ambush you there. Anabel then learns that Faba has joined the leaders of the old villain teams as Team Rainbow Rocket.
  15. Find Red. The last wormholes are deep in Meteor Falls and Granite Cave. Red is on Mt. Silver. Report to Anabel, who calls a war council of the Champions.
  16. Team Rainbow Rocket. Collect all 18 Z-Crystals and go to Pacifidlog Town. The crystals open the way to the Rainbow Castle, and the fight ends on the Mountain Top above it. Then Steven is waiting on Steven’s Island.

After the Hall of Fame

  • Your father gives Ticket 1 for the Battle Frontier; Birch upgrades the Pokédex; trading is unlocked.
  • The Day-Care Man on Route 117 now hands over the Oval Charm.
  • Team Magma’s “strongest man” Yanshan waits in the old Magma Hideout and teaches V-create when beaten. Team Aqua’s “strongest empress” waits in the Aqua Hideout. Both are optional.

Delta Episode: Zinnia and the meteorite

  1. Petalburg City. Wally is being attacked by a Team Magma remnant who wants his Mega Bracelet. Drive her off. Steven then calls with an emergency.
  2. Devon Corp., Rustboro. President Stone explains the meteoroid heading for the planet and Devon’s Infinity Energy: Plan S uses that energy to push the meteoroid off course; Plan D, the “Destroyer Meteor”, is the fallback. You are sent for a fragment of meteorite.
  3. Granite Cave. Zinnia is studying the old murals. Take the meteorite fragment. Team Magma takes your Mega Bracelet (“This is already the 7th time today”, says Steven).
  4. Mossdeep Space Center. Bring the meteorite to Prof. Cozmo. Zinnia battles you here.
  5. Meteor Falls. Stop the new Team Magma and beat Zinnia to get the Mega Bracelet back. Steven battles you in Meteor Falls too.
  6. Sky Pillar. Face Rayquaza, then ride it into space to stop the meteor and face Deoxys. Rayquaza joins you whether you catch it or knock it out.
  7. Mossdeep City. Wallace and Drake are waiting: the meteor was drawn in by a strange signal from Hoenn. Return to Steven’s Island.

Steven’s Island

The hub for everything that follows. Anabel (International Police) runs the Ultra Wormhole survey from the conference room, with the Devon Scout beside her.

  • The Ultra League. When Anabel sends you to the lobby, Champions from every region are there, and you beat them one after another: Blue, Lance, Alder, Iris, Diantha, Elio and Selene, Gladion, the Kalos champion X, N, Hilda, Black, Lucas, Serena and more. All are level 100; teams are in the Trainer Battles index.
  • An NPC on the right side of the island gives Beast Balls. The villa NPC gives the Old Sea Map for Mew on Faraway Island (sail from Lilycove). Selene on the right of the island re-awakens any Totem you beat without collecting its Z-Crystal. A “MoeMoe” attendant gives your lead Pokémon perfect IVs.
  • Yanshan (optional, in the three-floor developer house): Team Magma’s “Dark King” offers “the ultimate battle beyond despair” and lends you a Dynamax Band for it. Win and he gives you the Key Stone and takes the band back; lose and he just takes the band back. ROM
  • Kitty (same house), the hack’s lead artist, restores your team and wants dried fish: bring her the Dried Fish from Prelude Beach in Hisui for the nameless stone, the key to the God of Forms (see the Lost Artifacts page). Huang Banxian gives one free Egg, then sells them for 10,000. ROM
  • Grinding spot community: the NPC at the mansion entrance uses level 75–80 Wobbuffet, Blissey, Chansey and Lickitung. Bring Fighting types.

Anabel’s missions in detail

  • Pacifidlog. Faba (level 65, a Double Battle with Lusamine) is the first boss of the Ultra Wormhole survey. Cerulean Cave has the Team Rocket executives Archer, Ariana and Proton, then Mewtwo at level 50. A later Armored Mewtwo event exists (“The armor restraining Mewtwo has been removed… Poké Balls will work again!”).
  • Groudon and Kyogre. In Terra Cave, Maxie fights with a level-100 team and Primal Groudon, then Groudon is a level-70 encounter. In Marine Cave, Archie does the same with Kyogre. Both encounters are scripted battles found in the ROM.
  • Spear Pillar and the Distortion World. Cyrus fights you with rental Pokémon; you cannot use your own. Giratina (level 80, holding a Griseous Orb) is in the Distortion World. If you leave it there, you can still battle it later from Sinnoh.
  • Giant Chasm. Two Ghetsis fights (doubles, then singles). Rewards: the DNA Splicers and a second Cosmog. Kyurem is here at level 50.
  • Allearth Forest and Lake (the Kalos forest): Lysandre with Xerneas and Yveltal on his team, and the two legendaries themselves at level 50. Follow the capital-letter path in the Magic Woods community: up, right, left, down, down, left, left, left, right, right, down, down.
  • Mt. Silver. Two battles with Red. The game hints that the first is not the real one: “It feels as if something deep within Mt. Silver is resonating…! A Pressure very much like Red’s own…!”

Other wormholes and side trips

None of these is part of Anabel’s chain. You need Cosmog or its evolutions in the party for the spatial gates, or the Ultra Suit from Lusamine’s experiment.

  • Mt. Pyre: an Ultra Recon researcher gives Poipole (evolves by learning Dragon Pulse); Cresselia (level 50) is on Mt. Pyre.
  • New Mauville: Genesect, level 50.
  • Route 116 (Nebel Cave / Timeless Woods): Volcanion (level 50) and an Eternal Flower Floette.
  • Icirrus City and Dragonspiral Tower: Zekrom and Reshiram, level 50.
  • Mysterious island: Lyra hands you a “ferry ticket to Johto” that is really for an island with the legendary birds and the Johto cast (Silver, Gold, Ethan, Kris). Bird battles lead to Ho-Oh at the summit and a rampaging Shadow Lugia; keep exploring the island cave after Lapras (“It seems Lapras is not the master of this island…”). Articuno and Zapdos are scripted at Navel Rock in the ROM.
  • The Ultra Null Space: Faba again, now with Solgaleo, Lunala, Silvally, Hoopa, Nihilego and Guzzlord. He boasts of collecting two more Cosmog from parallel dimensions. Necrozma is “trapped in a prison of lightning”.

Team Rainbow Rocket

Anabel’s war council follows the Mt. Silver report: “Have you collected all 18 Z-Crystals? If you did, then go to Pacifidlog Town.” Eighteen Totem Pokémon (level 80, each holding its type’s Z-Crystal) sit in hidden base-style spots around Hoenn; the Z-Crystals table lists them. With all 18: “The 18 Z-Crystals let out a mighty surge…! A suspicious opening seems to have appeared…!”

The opening leads to Team Rainbow Rocket’s base, the Rainbow Castle. Its bosses are villains from parallel worlds: Giovanni, Lysandre, Cyrus, an alternate Maxie who “turned my entire world into land”, an alternate Archie whose world “ended up swallowed entirely by the sea”, Ghetsis with Kyurem and the DNA Splicers, and Faba. Admins Jupiter, Zinzolin, Xerosic, Shelly and Tabitha fight in level-88 doubles. community: on the harder modes Giovanni must be beaten within ten turns, and losing revives you at the base.

The arc ends on the Mountain Top above the castle, where Giovanni uses the “Spear of Heaven” and the assembled Champions rally you (“Believe in the bond between you and your Pokémon, the world will not disappear that easily!”). Afterwards the original developer’s note plays: “You’ve made it through the Ultra League and Team Rainbow Rocket! Unfortunately, that’s all the story progress there is for now.” Everything below was added in later versions. Go back to Steven’s Island, where Steven is waiting.

Chapter 2: World Championship Island

  • Getting there. Take the ferry from Lilycove City: Champion Island joins its list once you hold the World Championship ticket. Scott, in his house at the Battle Frontier, gives it with his PWT invitation once you have your first Silver Symbol from any facility (for example Salon Maiden Anabel, the 35th battle of a Battle Tower Singles streak). Its story scene only starts once Team Rainbow Rocket is beaten. Later the Snowpoint icebreaker in Sinnoh also goes straight to the island.
  • Paul and Waji. Paul, now out of Team Rainbow Rocket, battles you as you arrive. Then Waji, whom you last met in Petalburg Woods, gives you the boat ticket to Canalave City: “Take it to the harbor of Lilycove City and show it to the sailor… If you can’t find them, go to the Spear Pillar. Someone there will guide you.”
  • Dynamax Band. Leon was invited by Steven but stayed to fight the Darkest Day; he explains Eternatus “escaped through a spatial distortion” into an Ultra Space in Hoenn and gives the Dynamax Band. If you miss him, Sonia in his room (the small house below the Pokémon Center) gives one.
  • Eternatus. Leon is later found wounded in Ultra Space; you subdue Eternatus alone (level 50 scripted encounter). Leon then offers Dynamax rematches at a Wishing Star power spot; the Max Soup NPC gives your lead Pokémon the Gigantamax factor.
  • Rules. The tournament desk explains the format: standard doubles, bring six choose four, no duplicate species or items, no mythicals. In v5.7 the tournament itself is not open; the island hosts the Galar gym leaders (Bea, Allister, Avery, Klara at level 100 doubles), Koga, Paul and others.
  • Koga’s mark. Beat Koga and he marks you. That unlocks the ninja village hidden through the Route 102 forest: “Please come with only a single Greninja in tow.” Win the trial and your Greninja gains Battle Bond, becoming Ash-Greninja. Once you own one, Ash visits Route 101 for a tag battle.
  • Hyper Training. A trainer on the island Hyper Trains your Pokémon; with the patch the EV-IV Display shows 31 for a trained stat and the stats rise the moment he finishes.
  • After the Sinnoh League every TM is sold here, and it is the place to farm PP Ups community.

Chapter 3: Sinnoh

Arrival

Sail from Lilycove to Canalave City. Lucas meets you: “Every town in Sinnoh has Ride Pokémon that can fly you around. But since you’re new here, you should visit the towns first.” Fly points unlock as you visit. The Ride Pokémon summoner is in the Team Galactic warehouse in Veilstone, which also holds an HM. As Hoenn Champion you may Surf anywhere at once.

The eight gyms

“Against a Champion’s challenge, the Gym Leaders will use power at the mythical tier, and the type restriction drops to a minimum of three Pokémon.” Every gym is a level-50 rules battle (bring six, pick three) and can be taken in any order; community guides suggest Canalave first. Each leader gives a Generation 8 TM instead of a badge you need, though the badges still count for the League. The Quest Log’s Badges card shows the ones you have.

Sinnoh League

  • Requirements: eight Sinnoh badges, exactly six Pokémon, no eggs.
  • Victory Road: Lucas and Barry meet you at the end; Barry battles, Lucas gives an item. Scripted level-80 pseudo-legendaries (Hydreigon, Salamence, Metagross, Dragonite) live inside.
  • Format: “standard Double Battle rules… The Elite Four await behind the four doors on either side. You may challenge them in any order you like.” A staff member heals you between fights and a monitor shows each opponent’s team. Aaron (Bug), Bertha (Ground), Flint (Fire) and Lucian (Psychic) are followed by Cynthia in serious mode. The ROM stores only placeholders for these fights; the teams are built at battle time.
  • After the League: Heatran in a new Mt. Coronet opening reached from Snowpoint via Route 216 (level 30 in the ROM); every TM goes on sale at the Championship island.

Side quests worth doing

QuestWhereSteps and reward
Nightmare girl and the Lunar WingSolaceon Town → Route 210 → Lost TowerA woman in Solaceon has slept in a nightmare since making offerings at the Lost Tower; her husband tells the story. Dawn on Route 210 (you can battle her) hears about it and hands you the Lunar Wing she got from Cresselia on Fullmoon Island, “said to dispel any nightmare”. Bring it to Solaceon to wake the woman (the husband gives Berries). The “nightmarishly oppressive presence” blocking the Lost Tower then lifts, and Darkrai (level 50) waits inside. Later the wing reacts in the Distortion World, where a passage slowly forms. The Journal lists these steps after Volo. ROM
Old ChateauEterna ForestWatch the haunted TV, find the poisoned man and bring an Antidote, then fight the culprit (a Rotom encounter).
Fossil fusionOreburgh Mining MuseumHand over two Galar fossils and 50,000 (10,000 deposit) for a fused Pokémon; a single Galar fossil revives for 6,000.
Contest SpectacularHearthomeWallace and Diantha host; after your exhibition battle Meloetta joins you.
The geniesValley Windworks → Celestic shrineUse the News Tracker to find roaming rain (Tornadus) and storms (Thundurus); with both, pray at the Celestic harvest shrine for Landorus. Cogita later grants Enamorus. The same researcher gives a Drifloon on Friday nights.
