In game, the Quest Log’s Key Items chapter lists the 55 key items in story order, names each one from the start and says where it comes from.

Key items the patch adds
| Item | What it does |
|---|---|
| Journal | Handed to you automatically. Names your next story objective and opens the Quest Log. Every objective is listed here. |
| Sinnoh Map | Handed to you automatically. A map of Sinnoh, or of Hisui when you are there; A flies to a town you have visited. |
| Oval Charm | From the Day-Care Man on Route 117 once you have beaten the Hoenn League. Eggs appear about twice as often. |
| Mach Bike and Acro Bike | Once you own either, the other is added to your Key Items. |
Mega Stones
Read from the game’s own scripts (v5.7 bugfix 2). Nothing marks a Mega Stone on the map. The game puts each one on an object you cannot see, so walk up to the tile framed in the picture, face it and press A; the Itemfinder does not react to them. Click a picture to enlarge it. The two orbs behind Primal Reversion and Rayquaza’s Final Meteor are in the list too.

Professor Elm on Steven’s Island does not hand out a stone for showing him the Kanto starters’ Mega Stones in v5.7: the script for it is still in the game, but nothing runs it, and he only says he is busy.
Z-Crystals
All eighteen type Z-Crystals are held by Totem Pokémon at level 80, each in a hidden base-style spot in Hoenn. The species and crystals are read from the ROM; the route hints are from community guides. If you beat a Totem without getting its crystal, Selene on Steven’s Island can re-awaken it. Collecting all 18 is required to reach Team Rainbow Rocket’s castle and Necrozma.
| Z-Crystal | Totem (Lv 80) | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Normalium Z | Gumshoos | Route 113 |
| Firium Z | Alolan Marowak | Route 114, near the Meteor Falls entrance |
| Waterium Z | Wishiwashi | Route 111, big tree on the left |
| Electrium Z | Vikavolt | Route 119 |
| Grassium Z | Lurantis | Route 120 |
| Icium Z | Alolan Ninetales | Route 111 desert, top |
| Fightinium Z | Bewear | Route 115, surf north |
| Poisonium Z | Salazzle | Route 119 |
| Groundium Z | Mudsdale | Route 115 / 119 |
| Flyinium Z | Toucannon | Route 114 |
| Psychium Z | Oranguru | Route 120 |
| Buginium Z | Golisopod | Route 111 desert, right |
| Rockium Z | Lycanroc | Route 114, big tree on the left |
| Ghostium Z | Palossand | Route 119 |
| Dragonium Z | Kommo-o | Route 111 desert slope |
| Darkinium Z | Alolan Raticate | Route 114 |
| Steelium Z | Alolan Sandslash | Route 119 |
| Fairium Z | Mimikyu | Route 110, surf south of Mauville, big tree on the right |
Extras: Pikashunium Z can be split into Pikashunium Z and Eevium Z by a machine on World Championship Island; Ash-Greninja’s Z comes from beating Ash at the Battle Frontier; the Tapunium Z comes from Nanu after the four Tapu trials; the developer’s note after Rainbow Rocket releases “a few unassigned exclusive Z-items”.

HMs
Cut (Rustboro), Flash (Granite Cave miner), Rock Smash (Mauville), Strength, Surf (Wally’s father after Norman), Fly, Dive, Waterfall (after Rayquaza calms the weather). With the patch, owning the HM and its badge is enough: Cut, Strength, Rock Smash, Surf, Waterfall and Dive work even when nobody in your party can learn them, and Flash is offered in the party menu inside a dark cave. In Sinnoh an HM is stored in the Team Galactic warehouse, and Rock Climb is available to Sinnoh trainers and via the ride gear.
